ABOUT US

A Legacy of Excellence

With a rich history dating back to 1929, the University College of Engineering (UCE), Osmania University, is proud to announce the re-establishment of the prestigious Department of Mining Engineering. Renowned for producing some of the finest professionals in the field, our graduates have made significant contributions to the industry, previously holding and currently occupying top positions in both government and private organizations worldwide.

Historical Significance

The Department of Mining Engineering was originally founded in 1956 with an intake of 25 students for the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) program. In 1978, the department was relocated to Kothagudem and becoming the Kothagudem School of Mines (KSM). Till 1993-94, the department was affiliated to UCE, Osmania University, but from 1994, the affiliation was shifted to Kakatiya University.

Revival and Current Programs

The prestigious University launched the Master of Engineering (ME) in Mining Engineering as a self-financed program with an intake of 18 students, under the coordination of the Department of Civil Engineering at premises of University College of Engineering (Autonomous), OU, Hyderabad.

A Bright Future Ahead

Recognizing the burgeoning employment opportunities in the mining sector, the unwavering support of our mining engineering alumni association and the industry, the Department of Mining Engineering was formally re-established in 2021. The Department benefits from robust collaborations between industry, alumni, and academia, which have attracted distinguished faculty. Our faculty bring a wealth of experience and expertise, combining industry knowledge with academic excellence. Their dedication to advancing the field is evident in their innovative research, hands-on teaching methods, and commitment to student success. With a focus on delivering cutting-edge education and fostering practical skills, our faculty are dedicated to shaping the next generation of mining engineering leaders. Our Department stands out as premier choice in South India owning to its exceptional faculty, strategic location and university’s rich legacy. Osmania University is proud of providing the one of the best campus life one can ever get in an Indian university. 3

We now offer:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Mining Engineering: With an intake of 60 students, the program commenced in the academic year 2021-22. Admissions are being made through                    TG-EAPCET.
  • Master of Engineering (ME) in Mining Engineering: Intake of 18 students, available in both Regular and CEEP (Part-time) modes.
